Custom Trolls Birthday Cake
No Troll left behind! Especially for Emma's super terrific Trolls Birthday Cake! You guys, this cake is AMAZING! Dr. F truly pulled out all the stops, she raised the bar, up'd the ante, ruined the curve...check this out:
Wow!!! Am I right? And we are just getting started. So, when Dr. F asked Emma what kind of cake she would like for her birthday, a few ideas bounced around. Disney princess, emojis, no that won't do. But what about the happiest most huggable little hair-dos? Yes! It has to be Trolls. And Dr. F was super excited to hear this, the possibilities are endless! As they poured through pictures and talked about what they liked, and what they didn't like, one thing became clear. Rainbows. Lots, and lots of rainbows. And of course, the main diva (for our main diva), Poppy!
So aside from being absolutely stunning, this cake was quite and adventure. If you read our last post about her Karate Birthday Cake, you will remember Dr. F's declaration of frustration with the store bought fondant of yore. No more! Gone are the waxy tasting adornments, gone are the chewy encasements covering delicious cake, gone are the bland and boring balls of goo. It's all about homemade marshmallow fondant. So good. And according to her, super easy. Just mallows and confectioners sugar.
Also, she decided to change up the ganache used to hold the fondant to the cake. She wanted to match the fondant, so that you don't have the dark layer of chocolate between the cake and fondant. Enter Super Jen! She actually called me for advice, and I was happy to suggest Almond Bark over white chocolate chips for a white ganache. And it worked! And it tasted great! She also whipped some up and colored it pink, orange, yellow, green, and blue to create a rainbow filling for the cake (pictured above). And don't forget, rainbow colored cake as well. Whew! That's a lot of rainbows!
Let's talk about the flowers. They remind me of the fiber-art style of the scenery in the movie. So cool. Each flower hand punched in hand made, hand colored marshmallow fondant. Then expertly layered and applied, these flowers give this cake a groovy vibe, like a birthday cake for the Queen of Trolls of herself, Poppy!
This was no easy feat. Hours of making and crafting and hoping that new recipes work to solve problems previously encountered. And we all agreed, success!! This instant consensus of the party participants was "Wow!", and of course, the birthday herself was ecstatic! So brava Dr. F, you have outdone yourself this time! So what's next? How will she top this Terrific Trolls Birthday Cake? Sign up to find out!
