Snow Day Activity
If you are from this area, or the east coast in general, you've had a few snow days lately. Here on Long Island, we've had four (count 'em, 4!!!) nor'easters in the past few weeks. And just as many snow days, stuck inside watching the flakes fall and the wind blow. At first, it's amazing. You sleep in until like 7am, stay in your pajamas and eat fruit loops while watching cartoons with the kiddos. Around day 3 of this routine, we begin to go a bit stir crazy. We've baked all the cookies, colored all the pictures, played all the games, constructed all the forts. Now what?
A Snack The Kids Will Love!
No, for real! They will eat it! I have a confession to make. I have raised a.....ugh I can't even say it out-loud....a picky eater. There. It's my fault, 100% and I own that. But luckily, what she does pick is usually pretty healthy. She doesn't love a lot of sweets and snacks. Give her some white cheddar puffs and a whole apple, and she's a happy girl!

Our Spooky Halloween Tree
Last month we painted Our October Tree, and it was so much fun I decided to make it an ongoing art project. While exploring outside, we always notice the colors of the leaves and how they are changing. We love to collect the fallen leaves (in lieu of the flowers that have stopped blooming due to the frigid temps), especially the red and orange ones. So pretty!
Halloween Playlist, For Grown Ups
Halloween brings out the kid in most of us. Well, it brings out the kid in me that's for sure! I love everything Halloween, the sights and smells, the movies and treats. But one thing I don't love is the music of Halloween. Super cheesy, really annoying and not something I want to hear, even just once a year. So, I've compiled my favorite songs that have spooky sounds or ghoulish lyrics. Throw this on the speaker and your party will suck a little less. Here it is, your Grown-Up Halloween Playlist:
This is amazing!

Simple Halloween Treats
It's the most gruesome time of year, full of tricks and more importantly, treats! Around September-ish I suddenly feel the urge to bake. So any opportunity to make something for a special reason is super exciting! For inspiration, I scrolled through my Halloweenie board on Pinterest.
This year, our Kindergartner got to attend her first Halloween Howl at her school, so of course I jumped on the chance to bake some treats to show off.
Festive Fall Tree Painting
So this one is super easy. Easy set up, easy clean up, easy fun! We wanted to make some fall decorations, and one of our favorite elements of fall is the foliage. Watching the leaves turn bright reds and yellows and oranges, and anticipating the day that the first leaf drifts to the ground, so exciting! And the best part, leaf piles!!!
A magical, whimsical garden for tiny friends
Who doesn't love tiny things? Like tiny garden gnomes, tiny watering cans, tiny bird baths, too cute! Over the past few months I've been collecting the makings of a magical, whimsical fairy garden for my daughter to build. I wanted to create the garden, and let her fill it with some enchanting delights. Kind of like a city planner, but with fairies!
My goal was to cultivate her planning skills, and to encourage her to put things in places with purpose. I know, I'm optimistic, but I think she understood the process as a whole. I chose to make a garden with mostly synthetic materials, so it will last a long time. I started with a planter (window box size) made from plastic, so it's easy to clean and not too heavy. Then I filled it with pieces of green wet foam, cut to fit in the planter and fill it up making a semi-level surface on top. You can find wet foam in any craft store in the floral department.
